George W. Bush Presidential Library

This is doing the rounds at the moment. It is, on one hand, so funny, yet thought-provoking on the other, I felt it deserved a wider airing. In fact some of it makes uncomfortable reading even though, for other parts, you will split your sides laughing.

It will be fascinating to to see just what kind of library George Bush will have. Will there be anything positive to cheer about in it? What kind of story will it actually tell about his term? it is difficult to imagine how his history will be written, considering that no one is all bad or all good. But with many people already labelling him the worst president in history, it will be difficult to find a balance in assessing his terms.

Nevertheless, here is the proposed library!

The George W Bush Presidential Library is now in the planning stages and accepting donations. The Library will include:

The Hurricane Katrina Room, which is still under construction.

The Alberto Gonzales Room, where you won't be able to remember anything.

The Texas Air National Guard Room, where you don't even have to show up.

The Walter Reed Hospital Room, where they don't let you in.

The Guantanamo Bay Room, where they don't let you out.

The Weapons of Mass Destruction Room, which no one has been able to find.

The National Debt Room, which is huge and has no ceiling.

The Tax Cut Room, with entry only to the wealthy.

The Economy Room, which is in the toilet.

The Iraq War Room. (After you complete your first visit, they make you to go back for a second, third, fourth, and sometimes fifth visit.)

The Dick Cheney Room, in the famous undisclosed location, complete with shotgun gallery.

The Environmental Conservation Room, still empty.

The Supreme Gift Shop, where you can buy an election.

The Airport Men's Room, where you can meet some of your favorite Republican Senators.

The Decider Room, complete with dart board, magic 8-ball, Ou ija board, dice, coins, and straws.

Note: The library will feature an electron microscope to help you locate and view the President's accomplishments.

Senator Biden and My Cuz...!!!!

Senator Biden visited my birthplace today---Mansfield, Ohio----and here he is with my first first cousin....(my mom and her sister married two guys who were brothers)---I know it sounds weird----but it's not...thus Kathy is my first first cousin....she is a fantastic middle class mom, four kids, PTA goin', every sporting event her kids are involved in soccer mom---and she is NOT running for VP.....

The pic is from the local newspaper in Mansfield (Mansfield News Journal/Dave Polcyn) where my dad apprenticed as an offset pressman many years ago. If ever there was a town that needed CHANGE Mansfield is it----Westinghouse, several steel companies and many other manufacturing businesses vacated a long time ago and this town where my paternal grand parents immigrated from Austria to escape WWI is a desolation.

Kathy's daughter---Nicole---works for the Obama Campaign in Mansfield.

Clearing Up the Fog on This Election

A recent post on Newsvine by littlereddog just blew me away with its clarity. It is a good synopsis so far on all that we are hearing and seeing---INFORMATION OVERLOAD!

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, and you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and be President of the Law Review, and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a community organizer, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

* If your husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DUI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.

The Fear Monger's Reprise: Gary Bauer Says We are All Going to Die

I thought this recent presentation by Gary Bauer should be heard with your own ears. He uses the threat of a dirty bomb detonation in the "federal triangle" (is that related to the Bermuda Triangle?) is the reason he wants John McCain elected President.

He fails to mention that 9/11 occurred while Rudolph Guiliani was the mayor of New York and George Bush was the President---both Republicans.

The "smear of fear" tactic continues folks. Gary Bauer should be ashamed of himself.

Freedom To Vote

This episode focuses on legislative efforts in Georgia and Texas to require voters to present photo IDs, though such rules would create barriers for low-income, elderly and disabled people, and disenfranchise millions. While supporters of photo IDs say the goal is to eliminate voter impersonation, such fraud is extremely rare. "Freedom to Vote" also looks at the sacrifices that have been made in our nation's history to ensure that all have equal access to the ballot box.

Freedom From Spying

This episode reveals how the federal government is turning the U.S. into a nation under surveillance. From warrantless wiretapping of phone calls and monitoring of emails to the creation of a national identity card, the government is using "national security" as a justification for encroaching on our right to privacy and freedoms of speech and association. But the initiatives are stirring intense opposition from many groups across the political spectrum.

You may be aware of a special project we’re undertaking here at the Alliance Defense Fund, culminating in an event on Sunday, September 28 called Pulpit Freedom Sunday. We are excited about this opportunity that will, God-willing, give us the opportunity to restore now missing aspects of the First Amendment to our nation’s spiritual leaders. It’s no surprise that not everyone agrees and we have recently come under attack.

Many Americans’ attitudes and actions toward slavery, child labor, civil rights, and even the American Revolution itself started in the pews of our nation’s churches. As pastors preached and taught Biblical principles related to those issues and evaluated the politicians who promoted or decried them, their parishioners could decide their own stance in light of Scripture. Starting in 1954, that most basic right was ripped away from our pulpits.

The U.S. Congress amended IRS Code 501(c)3 without debate or analysis to restrict the speech of non-profit tax exempt entities, including churches. So, for the last 54 years, out of fear of losing their tax-exempt status, our nation’s pastors and priests have largely remained silent. Rather than risk confrontation, pastors have often self-censored their speech, ignoring blatant immorality in government and too often pronouncing their aversion from speaking about public policy. Those pastors who have longed to be relevant to society, to preach the Gospel in a way that has meaning in modern America, have studiously ignored much that has gone on in every tumultuous election season lest they drew wrath from the IRS.

On Pulpit Freedom Sunday, pastors from 20 states will reclaim their constitutional right. From the pulpit, they will advise their congregation what scripture says about today’s issues apply those issues to the candidates standing for election just like their forefathers did for 150 years. This week, the Washington Post reported opposition to Pulpit Freedom Sunday spearheaded by Americans United for Separation of Church and State. You can read that article by clicking here. (You can read a response to that article from ADF Attorney Erik Stanley by clicking here.) Those who oppose us publicly demand “separation of church and state” when it suits their agenda. They claim to defend “free speech,” when, actually, they want the government to monitor, censor, and control what happens in our churches and punish those whose speech violates their dark vision for America’s future.

At ADF, we do not welcome attacks but understand they will come as we humbly seek to do God’s will to defend these pastors who love God and want to serve Him. We expect complaints will be made to the IRS. We will pray and stand firm. We will represent these pastors should they come under fire and we will fight this battle all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, if necessary. It is just that important. As theologian Dr. John Frame notes, initiatives of this type are part and parcel of our constitutional legal system:

“In some systems of law, including the United States, the only way to establish the unconstitutionality of a law is by means of a test case. Someone must break that law, undergo trial, and then use as a defense that the law is unconstitutional. Such test-case lawbreaking is not a violation of the overall system of law… but rather attempts to purify the system by eliminating inappropriate legislation.”

We will fight this battle because it is the right thing to do. Our pastors and priests should be able to use their knowledge of Scripture to advise us in all areas of life, even in politics. By God’s grace, we will win this battle, but we cannot do it alone. We need your prayers, your support and the Lord’s blessing and protection. John 15:5.

One thing the ADF has forgotten apparently----the tax exempt status is derived from the IRS Code---I have one piece of advise for them myself:

Alliance Defense Fund Incites Lawlessness

The Alliance Defense Fund, founded by James Dobson, D. James Kennedy, Bill Bright, Marlin Maddoux, and Larry Burkett, (all very well known leaders in the evangelical/fundamentalist community), are encouraging pastors and preachers to violate federal tax laws by engaging in political activities that are now prohibited by the tax code.

The 501(c)(3) status of almost all evangelical and fundamentalist churches requires them to adhere to and obey the regulations of the IRS Code as they derive their very existence from the IRS Code.

The Alliance Defense Fund apparently believes that the IRS Code is unconstitutional...yet is setting people up as guinea pigs much like the Christian Patriot movement has in years past. Remember? I warned you.

Now we have a national "christian" organization promoting this type of lawlessness and inciting others to be its guinea pigs.

So much for "christian ethics..." One wonders what will happen to the people prosecuted for violating the law pursuant to the advise of the ADF? Will the ADF defend them for free??? I think not but will probably offer to defends such people....for a small fee.

I guess this is ADF's attempt at guaranteeing their existance and adding a bunch of new clients' money to their coffers...just my opinion.
